Artist's Description
In 1883, under the direction of industrialist Alexander 'Boss' Gibson, construction began of a cotton mill which was state of the art for its time. "Boss" Gibson named the company town that grew up around the mill 'Marysville' in honour of his wife. Marysville was named a National Historic Site of Canada in 1997 for being one of Canada's last intact 19th-century mill towns, which includes 19th century company houses and buildings patterned after those of British industrial towns.
